Custom Posture Chair

This week for reading we were given the task to make a chair or table to fix peoples postures. I created the posture pusher 9000, this fascinating machine has 4 rolly wheels for easy movement, straight back rest with padding to fix that bent over posture. We went onto a template slide to answer the questions to see if our product was up to standard. Below is my work and slide, I answered the questions so hopefully it is up to standard. My Design includes a description so make sure to read that as well.

Champions Of Peace PBL

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are Doves with Olive branches, Peace Symbol, Peace Fingers or Hands shaking.

These symbols represent peace because they show peace between everyone, the circle peace sign represents everlasting life and peace among all.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because it is a box of crayons with all the colours representing all the races and religions. It shows how we can all come together at peace. I believe the box represents the world as we are all in this together.

.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Martin Luther King Jr, I thought this person was a champion of peace because he brought peace to different races and religions and the differences of all.

.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here

I enjoyed learning about peace because looking at articles about peace shows the good side to earth and the heart warming stories of family and friends coming together.

I learnt that peace is not hard to obtain if everyone works together, the world needs more peace.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by accepting everyone for how they are and who they are, helping those in need and being kind to all.

So how will you be a champion of peace in your everyday life?

Reading Create Wk8 T3

This week for reading we learnt about the story of Nga Pakanga o Aotearoa (The New Zealand War). We learnt about the British invasion and how the Maori people fought back. Did you know that Hone Heke cut down the British flag pole down three times before the British stopped putting it back up. We also learnt about different text features in the story and how it makes it easier to read and understand. Below is a poster I made with different text features. Below I wrote this” The war affected many people during this time. Maori and Pakeha were on different sides and the British rained supreme, until Hone heke cut down the flagpole three times to show the strength of Maori. During this time many people suffered and struggled to stay alive due to the amount of deaths. There was an estimate of 736 British deaths and 2254 Maori deaths which shows how big of a threat the British opposed. The total death count was 2,990 people both Maori and British”. I think this explains the war of Nga Pakanga o Aotearoa well and show the amount of lives lost to this disagreement. Labeled diagrams, I included this feature because it helps to further explain the image to its fullest, because all of these features are to help so this helps a lot.

What are some text features that you know that I didn’t include?

Symmetrical Tile Math Wk6

This week for math we have been learning about symmetrical shapes and the elements of symmetry. Three important things we learnt was Transformation/Position and Orientation. These three things help to better understand symmetry and shapes to there fullest. The first one ill talk about is orientation, orientation is mirroring a shape by flipping it sideways up or down. And lastly is transformation, this is converting one geometric shape into another. For the create we were tasked with making a tiled floor on a doc, the twist being that it had to be symmetrical and have 6 shapes and 6 colours, below is my work. What is symmetry? symmetry a shape that is doubled or copied the exact same to another position.

I wrote some questions about this illusion:

Look at the center and blur your eyes. What happens?           How can you link this to other illusions of symmetry?

Can you name all the colours and shapes in the illusion?

Poetry Blog

Kia ora bloggers here is my poem work from this week, enjoy

For poetry we made a couple of different types of poems, we made things like, haikus, autobiographical and biographical, limerick and list poems. These types of poems are fun to write and take a lot of imagination. For the Autobio I chose my Nana and for the bio I chose myself to write about. For the antonym diamante poem I chose dark and light to represent the opposites. For the haikus I did four, sport, music, food and winter. for the list poems I did food and basketball, the structure for the list is a bunch of words with comma’s describing good things or bad things about the theme.

It was quite fun writing these and more fun showing them to others. Hopefully these were up to standard.

What is your favourite type of poem?

Reading Stories Wk3 T3

This week for reading we read a story called boot camp. In this story there are two main characters, Uncle Joey and Liyah. In the story they go together to a boot camp which is like a hardcore exercise course. Uncle Joey had a troubled past but soon that would catch up to him. At the end of the story three men in black hoodies knock on his window of the car and tell him that he needs them. Joey and Liyah drive away before they shout out again”You need us”. I have decided to make up what the next part of the story would be. down below is my text. if you cannot read it click on this link to see it better. If you would like to see the full text here is the link

How do you think the story would carry on from my text?

Battery Science Wk2 T3

This week for science we learnt about battery power and solar. For this blog I will talk about battery power and how different elements can work as electric circuits. Electric power travels in different ways, copper, zinc, water, salt and many others. For the experiment we started by making a hypothesis. A hypothesis is a educated guess about what might happen in the experiment.

Hypothesis: I believe that it will buzz on and off as the water spins like flicking a switch off and on until it stops, we will have to try different combinations of nails.

After the hypothesis we started by connecting a buzzer with cords out the ends that attached to the beaker. We added nails into the clips of the beaker. We added 3/4 of water to the cup and then added salt. The reason we added salt is because salt breaks down into Sodium (Na) and Chloride (Cl) ions which can power the cords which in turn, powered the buzzer to make a sound. The sound wasn’t too loud or frequent but we got it working a bit.

Our question was why does the salt activate the power buzzer? We found out the answer after we had done the experiment. When salt mixes with water slowly it splits into two elements, sodium and chloride. This has the ability to act as electricity for the wires.

Materials needed are:

‘T’ beaker,

‘S’ beaker,

specimen jar,

zinc nails,

copper nails,

water,

salt,

buzzer (metal clips)

My hypothesis was correct. After some testing and switching types of nails we ended up with one copper and one zinc attached. after we added the salt and mixed it slowly it buzzed in and out just as I thought it would because it was spinning at a slow speed it went for approximately 1 second before turning off only to turn on again. I believe we could have added more salt to the water so it would stay on longer.

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the water, salt and buzzer experiment because it was fun to see if it would turn on and we had no idea if it was going to work or not.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that I would need to try to different nails first with more salt.

Have you ever done an experiment and how did it go?

Graph Maths Wk10

This week for maths we were told to create a similar create to last week. We created a graph on 4 different foods for a mid winter breakfast, we used a wheel to spin and see what was the most or least likely food choice to be picked. We did 45 different rolls to make a sort of accurate assumption. below is my final design. After we had our results we converted the numbers into fractions then percentages so we could turn it into a graph.

What food choice would you pick?

The World Will End, Said The Cat

This week for reading we read a story called, The World Will End, Said The Cat. In this story Raff is a kid who lives in Auckland New Zealand, He lives in a dodgy place near the hills and mountains. His father is very concerned about him going out at night so he tells him not to, But that night Raff goes out on top of a hill near his house where he sees a giant glowing egg and a cat. He goes closer to observe the egg but then the cat starts talking! The cat tells him about how if he touches the egg the world might end, but if he doesnt the world might end too, confusing right well what the cat really means is that if he touches the egg it will open something called a pandora gate, a portal for dimensional travel that will change destinations every 30 days, and if he doesn’t touch it the world will eventually end to pollution or not enough resources. In the end we do not find out what he did but I think the writer did it on purpose to get us to imagine what he did. This story was very interesting, so we made a create about it explaining the pros and cons of why he should touch the egg or not touch the egg, we show synthesising.

Resolution: In the end I think the story is very good at getting the reader to do synthesising. I believe Raff should touch the egg to open the world to new beginnings.

What do you think Raff should have done?

Reading Venn Diagram

This week for reading we were tasked with creating a venn diagram about two texts we read. The first story we read was New beginnings, this story is about a village that is unnamed as they are being over populated and under resourced. They decided they couldn’t take raiders anymore and decided to leave in a boat. They unfortunately had to leave the elders behind due to not having room on the boat for them. they end up finding a island after 40 years or so and settle down there on the island with rich resources. The second story is called my name is Rez. In this story a girl named Rez is from Kurd and is driven out of her land into pakistan until they are brought to New Zealand and settle down in peace as they have there own house. This story teaches me to be grateful for all we have. in the venn diagram it shows the differences and similarities of the two texts

Which story do you think connects with you more?
